New technologies for the degradation of waste PET and conversion of biomass based on ILs

Recycling of waste PET is an effective way to solve the environmental pollution and realize the reuse of resources. Currently, the chemical recycling of PET still has defects such as harsh conditions and low reaction rate and therefore difficult to achieve commercial production. We developed a new green and efficient technology for the degradation of PET catalyzed by ionic liquids, the degradation rate of PET reached to 100%, the selectivity of the products reached above 82%. The factory of kiloton demonstration device of PET degradation has been preliminary designed.
Due to the harsh reaction condition, high energy consumption and low product selectivity of biomass conversion, we developed an efficient transformation process with a series of room-temperature ionic liquids as solvents for the hydrogenation of angelica lactone, it showed that ILs has a promoting effect on the selective hydrogenation of the C=C bond at room temperature. Moreover, the reaction system of ionic liquid/catalyst showed good reusability with no obvious decrease (Fig. 7). The related work was published on Angew. Chem. Int. Edit. (2013, 125: 12576-12579) and so on.
